P5/6 had a fantastic day recreating a Victorian Classroom. Children experienced a typical school day from the Victorian era including bible lessons, reading, writing and arithmetic before the potato lesson and drill. Children also had hand inspections after break and lunch to ensure they had clean and tidy hands ready for work.
Boys and girls lined up separately, ate separately and took different afternoon lessons. The boys tried their hand at technical drawing and construction whilst the girls hand washed stubborn stains from clothing to prepare them for a life as a housewife or servant.
The day was a real insight into how different school life would have been in Victorian times. We can’t wait to visit Scotland Street on Wednesday!
