Additional In-service days

Dear Parents / Carers

As you may be aware, the Scottish Government has granted 2 additional in-service days, to be held in academic year 2019-20, as part of the recent teachers’ pay award.

It has been agreed that the additional in-service days will be:

  • Tuesday 24th September 2019
  • Friday 3rd April 2020

Please note that all schools and ECCs will be closed to pupils on these dates.  Local arrangements may be adapted in ECCs to ensure the provision of stated hours.

Homework at Catrine PS

Homework is an important part of learning for every child, as it provides an opportunity for them to explain what they’re learning in class.

It also gives our older pupils a chance to highlight their increasingly responsible attitude towards their schoolwork as it’s up to them to ensure that homework is completed to a high standard, and handed in on time.

Each week, spelling words for P3/4 to P7 will be posted on GLOW – this is to reduce paper and avoid homework not being completed due to spelling lists being lost.

P4/5, P5/6 and P7 spelling words are on GLOW for this week, and P3/4 will start their spelling homework next week. P1 and P2 will receive their Literacy homework instructions over the coming weeks.

We are also reviewing our home Reading Book strategy – look out for information regarding reading books coming home for your child over the next few weeks!

As always, we operate an Open Door Policy – please contact the school for any further information.

P2 ‘Rainbow Pizza’

P2 had a lovely morning at The Institute making lots of delicious food. We made ‘Rainbow Pizza’ using healthy ingredients such as tomatoes, peppers, onions and broccoli! We then got to make some very tasty cookies.

Yum!

Drop-in Sessions

Thank you to parents and family members who attended our drop-in sessions yesterday. It was great to see everybody! It was nice to show off the great start we’re making to this term’s learning and to show how our Primary 1 pupils have settled in so quickly.

Thank you.

AM Brown Institute Visits

As part of the Connecting Generations project our pupils will be visiting the Institute to take part in a variety of activities such as cooking and weaving.

Each class from P2 to P7 will make five visits throughout the year.  The visits will take place on a Friday morning.

Please check the timetable below to see what dates your child will be involved.  Please ensure your child has appropriate clothing for the weather as they will be walking to and from the Institute.  Pupils should also take a snack.

Pupils must have returned their permission form for the walks around Catrine to take part in these visits.

Allergy update

For Health & Safety reasons Catrine Primary School would like to promote an awareness that children within the school have food allergies and intolerances, including severe nut allergies. Please ensure that your child does not bring any food/snacks which contain nuts into our school e.g.,

  • monkey nuts, nutella chocolate spread, or chocolate bars containing nuts

Thank you for your support in this important H&S matter. Please contact the school office if you require any further information.
