Thank you to all P.S. and ECC parents/carers for their cooperation in ensuring all pupils were collected safely today. Both establishments did send out texts at 1.30 p.m. unfortunately there were problems with the EAC text system due to the sheer amount of texts being sent out throughout the authority. Any further updates will be on the EAC website and on our GLOW page.
Due to adverse weather conditions Catrine Primary School and ECC will close today at 1.30 p.m. Please arrange for your child to be collected from the main office. Please note that both establishments will be closed tomorrow. Updates for Friday will be issued at 1.00 p.m. tomorrow through East Ayrshire Council’s website.
In our Digital Learning Committee, we learned how to make quizes using Microsoft Forms. Please fill out the “Fantastic Fun Quiz” we made. We worked hard in our groups to come up with all the questions.
On Thursday last week, Elliot and Grant from Kilmarnock Football Club came to talk to the Primary 3/4/5 class about the importance of drinking water, especially when exercising. They delivered a fun football session in the gym and then took us back to the class where they delivered a very informative presentation and we even had a wee quiz. The children had a fantastic time.
The Pupil Council are organising a World of Work Day on Thursday March 15th 2018. We would like you to come in and talk to the classes about your job. We would be interested in hearing all about your different jobs and this may help the children decide what their future jobs could be.
If you have some time to spare and would like to come in and speak to our pupils please complete the attached slip and we will contact you to arrange times. If you know any ex pupils who would like to come in and talk about their jobs please ask them to contact Mrs. Schendel at the school.
We look forward to hearing from you.

On Wednesday 7th February Primary 1/2 and 2/3 came into school to find a dragon had visited their classrooms and had left them a letter (we saw him on the cctv). The letter asked the children for their help as Fairyland had disappeared because no one was reading fairytales anymore. We wrote a letter back saying we would help him.
On Monday 19th February the children came into school and found Ginger the gingerbread man in the P2/3 classroom. The dragon asked the boys and girls to take care of Ginger as he had no where to live. We had a very busy week. The children made ginger playdough and gingerbread man sun catchers. On Tuesday Ginger went missing and we decided to make and put up missing posters to help find him. We found clues to where he was and we found him in the playground! Today Ginger had brought us delicious gingerbread biscuits to decorate and then, the best part, eating them up.
P1/2 and 2/3’s Fairyland Adventure – to be continued…………
As a staff, we have added another value to the original set, so our School Values are now:
Ambition, Determination, Fairness, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, Teamwork (our new value)
We focus on these values regularly, during Assembly, in our Home Circles and in class.
We’re looking for a collective name for our Values.
‘STAR VALUES’ – which would have a display focus of ‘reaching for the stars’, ‘aiming high’ with values displayed on a 7-pointed star.
‘CATRINE VALUES’ – with a display focus of the ‘Catrine Values Wheel’, tying in with the Big Wheel on our school badge and aiming to raise pride and confidence of being a member of Catrine school community and of the village community.
Whichever suggestions gets the most votes – with ECC and PS pupils, parents and staff being consulted – will be announced as our new values name.
Your child has been issued with a letter today with a unique login and password. If you have any issues or questions regarding this letter, please contact the school office. If ,as a parent, you require an additional login, please contact the school with your email address and we will provide you with login details for your child’s parent pay account.
The red group visited The Cevic Centre where we made rainbows by cutting our paper plate in half, painting a yellow sun and adding coloured tissue paper to make our rainbow. We also listened to a rainbow story which we really liked as it had shiny stars in it. On our walk to the Cevic we heard a cockerel and on the way back we did very well recognising the numbers on the doors. We had lots of fun and had a brilliant morning!
The whole school would like to wish Isobel McMenamin a HUGE farewell as she moves to England! Isobel has been our Lollipop lady for 28 years and also our dinner lady for the past 3 years. She will be sadly missed.
Auchinleck Academy PE team are starting a community programme for primary pupils at the academy (please see below). This is a great opportunity for primary pupils to take part in some community activities, developing their skills, health and well-being and also making new friends.
Thursday 1st of March is World Book Day and the theme this year is Share a Story. Therefore, instead of asking the children in the Primary School to dress up as their favourite character, we are asking them to talk about their favourite book. They can bring in a book from home or borrow a book from their class library. Please take time to talk to your child about why this is their favourite book. What is their favourite character and why? Have they read any other books by this author? Who would they recommend the book to?
The children will be celebrating in school by taking part in lots of different activities and the staff will be sharing their favourite stories too.
Tempest Photography will be in school on Thursday 1 March to take individual and family photographs. Primary 1 and Primary 7 will also have a class photograph taken. Please note that this is for primary school children only. Please complete:
