Miss Kate was in doing Tweet with us. We were dancing, leaping and doing some circle dancing.
Yesterday we had a few group activities practicing our 3D shapes and learning about net shapes. We printed the net shapes using the 3D shapes to help us. We were given an object to make a box for using our knowledge of net shapes to help us. We had to use a ruler to measure the object and make a box big enough.
We have been learning about Victorian Schools over the last few weeks. We set out the classroom like Victorian times and completed some handwriting on black paper with chalk – like the Victorians would use slate boards. If we shouted out we had to wear the dunces hat. It was fun but tricky trying our best not to talk, ask questions or fidget when completing this task.
We created 3D models of a bird cage. We then created our own colourful parrots to go inside the cage. They are just like the parrot from Matilda. We enjoyed this chapter because Matilda pranked her parents by stuffing a parrot up the chimney and they thought it was a ghost they heard talking!
We read a chapter of Matilda and created a comic strip about the chapter.
We have been learning how to play Tennis for PE. We played a game where we had to balance the ball on the tennis racket and people tried to make us get it off without touching the person balancing the ball. We enjoyed this game!
We have been learning about Victorians and what their school life was like. We made our own dunces hats. The dunces hats were used in Victorian time because if children were not working quickly enough the teacher thought they were lazy and they were made to wear the hat.
We used Lego and K’nex to create 3D shapes. We were able to talk about their properties such as how many edges, faces and corners.
For P.E. this week we were playing tennis. We were practising hitting the ball off the wall and bouncing it on the ground.
We have started our Victorian topic. This week we have been learning what a Victorian classroom was like. We have enjoyed learning and comparing our school life to theirs.
We have been learning about 3D shapes. We looked at their properties like how many faces, corners and edges they each have.
For writing we drew monsters or superheroes and had to describe what our monsters/superheroes looked like. Here is some of our work below.
We have been learning about Charles Rennie MacIntosh – I enjoyed creating the Glasgow Rose. We used a step by step guide to help us draw the rose and then we used colouring pens to colour the pattern.
We have started reading Billionaire Boy and Matilda in class.
In numeracy we have been continuing our number talks – looking at partitioning, adding up and compensation.
We used shoe boxes to create our own inventions, some of us made bird boxes, vending machine, space helmets, treasure chest, trash can and frog houses.
Everyone has enjoyed their first full week in P5/6!
