P5/6 have been exploring the poem ‘Willie Wastle’ by Robert Burns. The pupils listened carefully to the poem and were able to use visualisation to draw a picture of what Willie Wastle’s wife looked like. The pupils in P5/6 have also been learning to write a newspaper report this week. This involved interviewing a witness and gathering information using the 5 W’s to write their report.
Maths
Additionally, the pupils have been learning to round money in maths this week and can now confidently use this strategy when purchasing various items.
Other Curricular Areas
As part of their Scottish topic, P5/6 have been investigating Scottish clans. The pupils were able to recognise different clans by looking at their tartan and crest. They were then able to research their chosen clan names such as Campbell, Gordon and Fraser.
The pupils have also enjoyed participating in strings again this week and look forward to learning to play new songs on their instruments!
The pupils have been learning to calculate change using the counting on strategy. They have also been learning to work within a budget which has involved giving pupils experience of using ICT equipment to shop online for groceries and other electrical items.
Literacy
Additionally, P5/6 pupils have been learning to use alliteration to improve their writing. The pupils are now confident in using this technique and were able to think of some creative alliterated ice cream flavours. Would you be willing to try Manky Macaroni flavoured ice cream? As part of our new Scotland topic, the pupils also learned the meaning of some Scottish words.
Other Curricular Areas
Continuing with our Scotland topic, the pupils’ music knowledge was put to the test as they were tasked with identifying various Scottish songs and artists. They have also been exploring the artistic style of Romero Britto and created their very own calendars using his work for inspiration.
P5/6 have had a blast this week whilst creating their own bobble hat decorations and melted snowman biscuits. They also enjoyed taking part in lots of dancing and playing games at their Christmas party!
This Thursday and Friday P5/6 have been looking at our solar system. We know that our solar system is made up of the eight planets, asteroids, dwarf planets, the sun, and moons.
P5/6 were able to make models of the individual planets and painted them to create our very own class solar system!
In maths we have been learning to tell the time using digital clock and analogue clock and have also explored the concepts of am and pm.
In writing we have been creating a narrative story and have created our characters and setting so far.
