Outdoor Learning and Play

We are very fortunate to have direct, free-flow access to our outdoor area, with each playroom benefiting from their own secure garden. This allows us to provide developmentally appropriate play and learning experiences within a safe and secure outdoor space.

From Realising the Ambition:
“It is undeniable that daily, high quality outdoor play experiences have a direct and positive impact on children’s physical, cognitive, social, mental health and emotional development”.

“Children flourish when playing outdoors in all weathers. Feeling sun, wind, rain, snow and ice first hand is important as it connects us as human beings to the planet we live on”.

In the ECC, the children have daily access to outdoor learning and play, and we aim to provide all the children the opportunity to spend at least 50% of their session outdoors. We provide outdoor clothing and wellies, however we know some children prefer to have their own things so if you can provide an outdoor suit and wellies, that would be great!

Children will get wet and they will get muddy from exploring our outdoor areas so we ask you provide a change of clothing, including a few pairs of socks and trousers/leggings.

Look how much fun and learning we do in our outdoor spaces!
