We are very happy to announce that the Clever Cogs afterschool club won the Ayrshire Regional STEM Club of the Year! We won a trophy, certificate and £200 to be spent on STEM resources for the school. In June we will be attending the National finals in Glasgow. This is a great achievement! We are so proud of all of the boys and girls in the club, and their parents for their support.
Today, a team of the Clever Cogs afterschool’s technology group went to Dumfries House to compete in the Regional STEM Celebration Event. They showcased their learning in a short presentation to a team of judges and shared their work to other schools from across all of Ayrshire.
The Clever Cogs team took part in lots of different STEM experiments and found out about different careers in this field of work.
We all had lots of fun and learned some new (and really cool) stuff!
Today Primary 3 enjoyed a visit to Emergency One. This was an opportunity for us to extend our STEM knowledge and learn about how vehicles are really made. We got to see the production line for ourselves, including the shell and the chassis of the fire engines. Elliot, our guide, showed us all around the factory and we were even able to sit in a fire engine. We are now going to take this learning forward as we continue to construct our own model vehicles.
As part of our STEM learning, Primary 3 enjoyed a visit from a local engineer called Mr Burns. Mr Burns came to class to help support the pupils to construct the chassis of their shoebox models. This involved lots of estimating, measuring, using tools and perseverance. Thank you to Mr Burns for coming to help us to learn.
