Touch

Yesterday we learned all about our sense of touch. We were blindfolded and had to guess what was hiding under the towels on the trays. Some were very easy to guess, others less so!

More stories!

Sloane’s mum, Erin, joined us today to read a favourite story in their house – Tiddler, the Storytelling Fish, by Julia Donaldson.  We loved it.
thank you to all the grown ups who offered to come in and read to us.

More Story Fun!

Evie’s dad, Graeme, came in to read us a story on the approach to World Book Day. He brought her little sister, Isla with him.  He read us a story called Which Bum’s Mum’s? We all found it very funny. There seems to be a theme here in the dads’ choices of books! 😂

Sight!

In Science we were learning all about our eyes and our sense of sight. We were able to talk about the different parts of our eyes and labelled them on a diagram.
We made  lava lamps and watched them work when we put a fizzy tablet into the mixture.  It was fun!
Then we did a magic milk experiment and watched the food colouring mix to give a marble effect.

We couldn’t have done all of this without our sense of sight.

Story Time!

This week we have had some of our parents in class to read us stories in preparation for World Book Day next week. Caleb’s dad read us The Dinosaur that Pooped a Pirate and Aidan’s dad read Dinosaurs Love Underpants!  We all sat beautifully while they read to us.

Pancake Day

Today we learned about why we have Pancake Day , or Shrove Tuesday. We had great fun  tasting different tastes. First of all we had to learn how to quarter our pancakes, then we got to spread our pancakes with four different flavours  – sweet, sour, bitter and salt. None of us liked the bitter taste! Can you guess by our faces which tastes we are trying?  😂

Air Detectives

On Monday we were being air detectives in Science. We had to time how long it took the particles from an air freshener to reach us! We learned that if we have a blocked nose it takes us longer to register the smell.
We then had to smell four different pots which were covered and had to try and guess what they were. It wasn’t that easy!

Scottish afternoon.

We had a great afternoon in the Assembly hall today. We were celebrating being Scottish! We wore a bit of tartan, sung some Scottish songs, danced and had some Irn Bru and shortbread. It was delicious! We learned how to do the Canadian Barn Dance and the Virginia Reel. When we got back to class Mrs Howie read us The Three Wee Pigs by the Scottish author, Matthew Fitt. It was funny!

The author Debbie Quinn brought her book and her special friend, Leonard the Lion in to see us.She read her story to us, which is all about learning how to stay healthy and then she  taught us Leonard’s special dance. It was great fun. We then drew our favourite part of the story.

Every week, Mrs Johnstone gives out a special award at assembly. Here are our certificate winners so far in Primary 2HM:
