Home Learning Statement
Why promote home learning?
In this statement “home learning” refers to any work or activities pupils are encouraged to do outside class time usually with the support of parents and carers. At Galston Primary we strive to work in partnership with our parents/carers to support our pupils’ learning. Home learning is not compulsory but should be seen as a positive aspect of learning with practice and consolidation of skills continuing at home supported by parents/carers.
What kind of tasks are beneficial for home learning?
Suggested home learning tasks at Galston Primary will reflect core areas of the school curriculum. Tasks will reinforce learning in basic numeracy and literacy skills but there may also be opportunities at home to develop other areas of the curriculum. Typically each class will be expecting children to complete spelling, numeracy and reading each week. For P1 there will be a focus on individual sounds, then blends and then a reading book. Children are not asked to submit their home learning tasks to the teacher but to share these with their parents/carers.
Other Learning Opportunities
At various times throughout the session there may be other opportunities provided to participate in whole school projects and initiatives e.g. Rights Respecting School Holiday Scavenger Hunt.
