World Book Day 5th March

Dear parent/carer
World Book Day is on Thursday 5th March. The children have been given their book tokens home to get a free World Book Day book or to get money off a more expensive book.
On Thursday there will be activities in classes relating to World Book Day and children are welcome to dress as a favourite book character.  Please note  you do not need to go out and buy a costume as the focus of the day is enjoyment of reading. No football strips should be worn, as with any dress down day, however comfortable clothes can be worn.
If your child has a favourite book, they wish to share then they can bring it in.  We would kindly ask that their name is put inside to help identify their book.
We plan to have good fun and plenty of activities on the day.
Thank you for your continued support.

Dinnae Forget Your Caddy

A message from our Eco Community Group.

Good morning Parents / Carers
Please find attached this document from East Ayrshire about ‘Dinnae forget your Caddy!’
It’s an eco initiative aimed at improving recycling rates.  We have been asked to remind people about the initiative and encourage any interested families to sign up.
Thank you,
Mr C. McAughtrie and Eco Community Group
Galston Primary School

Dear parents/carers,

Did you know?

69% of our food waste here in East Ayrshire is being put in our household waste bin instead of our food recycling bin.

We are delighted to advise that your child’s school will be participating in East Ayrshire’s Food Recycling Initiative ‘Dinnae forget your Caddy!’  The aim of the programme is to raise awareness of the food items that can be recycled and encourage more families across our community to recycle their food waste at home between February and June 2026.

 How it works

Participation in this programme will encourage all our young people and families to:

  • Learn about the importance of recycling our food waste (click here to find out more)
  • Learn how to recycle food waste here in East Ayrshire – (click here to find out more)

What we would like you do:

  • Choose a name for your family’s kerbside caddy. Write your chosen name on the lid/front of your kerbside caddy
  • Let us know the name of your caddy by registering it
  • Recycle your food waste at home, present your caddy for collection each week and enter your school recycling monthly prize draw – click here to find out when your caddy collection day is
  • Can you share your knowledge and encourage anyone else to recycle their food waste too and help to raise your Community Caddy Count?

*** To request a kitchen and/or kerbside caddy, please email waste@east-ayrshire.gov.uk ***

Below you can see the highest percentage of caddies that have been presented for collection in your area. This is your Week 1 Community Caddy Count.

We will begin monitoring the number of food caddies presented for collection from Monday 2nd February and continue this throughout term 3 and 4.

In mid- June we will again share the highest percentage of caddies that have been presented for collection in your area. This is your Week 15 Community Caddy Count.

Can you recycle your food waste each week and encourage others to do the same to help raise your Community Caddy Count?

We look forward to keeping you updated on our progress throughout the year and thank you in advance for supporting Dinnae forget your Caddy!

Primary 6 Burns Supper

Primary 6 enthralled the parents with their fabulous Burns Supper.  Having sent out their digital invitations to parents the young people impressed them with music, poetry, dance and speeches during the afternoon and there was haggis, neeps and tatties to enjoy as well.  A special thanks must go to Grants and Brownings for their wonderful donations towards the afternoon. Many thanks also to the parents who attended and who helped create such a good atmosphere  and response for the children.  Such a super time had by all!

Big Book Bonanza Friday 6th March

Do you have books at home that you have out grown?

Do you books that you are too old for now?

Bring them into school by Thursday and donate then to our Big Book Bonanza .  The children can discover new authors, new stories and new favourites.  Books should be dropped off to Mrs Milne’s office by the children  or taken into class where they will be collected..

Thank you for all of your continued support.
