Musical Instrument Opportunity

Dear Parent/Guardian,
I am writing to let you know about an opportunity that your son/daughter is now eligible for. Your child has recently had a visit from East Ayrshire Music Service staff who provided a showcase performance on instruments available in your child’s school through the Music Service. If you would like your child to be tested for a musical instrument, please complete the Expression of Interest MS form. The link for this can be found below.  We try our best to accommodate as many pupils as possible, however, demand for lessons is very high. Please note that by registering your interest, this does not guarantee your child a space.

Should your child be successful in the trial a further registration form will be issued to allow you to register for lessons and the loan of a musical instrument. For your information the Terms and Conditions of the Music Service can also be found here:

Primary 3

This is a busy week for us as we have our school trip today to Largs and Vikingar. On Wednesday the children have their bouncy castle treat for raising money through their Scottish Tuck Shop followed by a movie afternoon whereby they can bring in pjs, cosy covers, pillows etc and a small snack.

Due to this there will be no formal homework or reading issued this week but normal homework and reading will start back next week.

JRSO Parking Campaign

Over the last two weeks the JRSO group have been issuing parking tickets with the help of PC Rae who joined them to help make the parking around the school better and safer for all.  They designed the tickets to remind those who were parking in the wrong areas that first and foremost they were trying to make it the safest it could be.  The JRSOs would like to thank the parents for their co-operation in parking safely in the correct place. It makes it better for everyone in our community.

Please do not bring dogs to the park either on or off the lead.

A HUGE Thank you!

A HUGE Thank you to all of the fabulous volunteers who came along and supported the school during World of Work Week this week.

This week has been very  full with many many volunteers coming into school and delivering inspirational world of work sessions.  Paramedics and Health professionals, Engineers and Games designers, Charities and Lifeboats.  The children have had a great time. This would not have been possible without the support of the community and the staff who co-ordinated it all.  Thank you.

The Children’s Champion – Hendrie Family Award

The Children’s Champion  – Hendrie Family Award
At a meeting in the Crown Inn Hall on the 6th of May 1864, the burgh of Galston was established by the householders of the town. One of the main proposers of this act, was a banker by the name of Mr John Hendrie. With this in mind the Hendrie family, who still live and work within the Galston area, have donated a fund for the establishment of a prize for the pupils of Galston Primary School. This is to encourage the children to promote Galston and help their fellow pupils and members of the community, wherever possible.
We are a Rights Respecting school in conjunction with members of the Hendrie family and staff in school we award a trophy at our annual prize giving in June.
The award is given to a child who has acted in a way that ensures one or more of the articles from the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child are promoted within the school and/or the wider community of Galston.
Children should be nominated by staff, House Captains and by community organisations using a simple nomination form. The nominations will then be considered by school staff and a representative of the Hendrie Family.
The Children’s Champion will receive the Hendrie Family Trophy.
We are looking for children who are or may have been an active member of a youth group or club and been a good ambassador. Alternatively, someone who has been involved in community initiatives ie a litter pick, gardening etc or someone who has helped and supported other children to feel included and safe.
Nomination forms are available from the school office or using the link below to access an electronic form.
We would encourage you to share this information as widely as possible and for you or any member of the community to make your nominations by Friday 6th June 2025
