Classroom doors

As part of Book Week Scotland we had a dress your classroom door as a book jacket competition. We had fantastic support with 23 doors done in all. As you can see if you look at the pictures , some people had gone to a huge amount of effort. Some doors were done by teachers and some by groups of pupils. It sparked a lot of inerest with puils and staff.
You can see the winners listed below.

Readers’ Cup quiz

The Doon Academy heats for the East Ayrshire schools Readers’ Cup competition were held on Monday 25th March in the Library.

S1 answered questions on humour, comics, witches and wizards and animals. The competition was very close and ended with a tiebreak between Raecar and Bradan, which Bradan won. The top two teams scored 31.5 out of 50 which is a very good result. The Finlas were very close behind with 36 points. Well done to the winning team of Lee Uriate, Olivia McCutcheon, Sheryl Whiteside and Emma Blain.

The S2 competition in the afternoon was less closely fought, but fairly close. They had similar questions with sequels added instead of animals.
This time Raecar were clear winners on 31 points. Well done to Liam Elder, Melanie Connell, Jade McClymont, and Ryan Mcmillan.

Very American, but an interesting experiment!

Barry Hutchison trip

On Friday 1st March I took a minibus load of boys from S1 to S2 to Cumnock Academy to see the author Barry Hutchison. As always Barry was very entertaining and all the boys enjoyed his talk. Most of them thought he was very funny and they liked that he talked about his fears and some of the weird things he was scared of.
“I thought Barry Hutchison was good especially when he talked about his past and his fears.”
“He was funny and made everyone laugh”
“Nice and scared of a lot of things.”
“His books sound very good.”
“I liked it when he told us all about his books.”

To find out more abour Barry go to his website or Invisible fiends or you can follow him on Facebook or Twitter.
