Commonwealth Top Trumps – How we made it
First we were put into 6 groups. Our group was Brooke, Mason and Josh A. We took part in a carousel type activity where we had to brainstorm ideas on the following words:
Culture, play, exchange and people
Video, blogs, social media and audio.
Then Mark chose one word from each group for us – EXCHANGE and CARDS.
Our challenge then was to come up with a Commonwealth themed idea which included both words. Mark suggested Top Trumps cards and as we all knew how to play it we decided to do that.
We spent a lot of time on the computers. First, Mason made a template for our cards then we each picked a country and made our first Top Trump card. Information which we included was Name of Country, Population, Highest Mountain, Longest River, Number of Commonwealth Medals and Number of Years in the Commonwealth.
When we got back to the Primary School the rest of our class helped us produce more cards during our ICT time.
We made one more card each then played the game. We were videoed while we played. We were really pleased with how the game worked out. We felt proud of our work. This week was great as we got to sample all the food which one of the other groups made.
We spent the session explaining how you play the game, typed it up and videoed the instructions. We also got to watch all video footage gathered over the four weeks.
