STEM Day for Primary 7 pupils

Friday 26^th May 2017

60 P.7 pupils from Auchinleck Academy associated feeder Primary schools were involved in a Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths activity day at Dumfries House on Friday 26^th May.

Auchinleck Academy Technical Department staff delivered a workshop based on engineering structures. Groups of 5 pupils were given the task to build a scale model of the new Forth Road Crossing cable stay bridge. All groups successfully completed the task within 40 minutes – no mean feat!

• Auchinleck Academy pupils and staff are sponsoring Jebbeh Kiazolu Primary School in Liberia – so the 250 children will be fed for the whole year. We have so far raised over £4000 to support this through fundraising activities. The monthly penny collections are a regular way to contribute.
• We contributed donations including 30 filled backpacks so far so children in Malawi would have materials to take to school. We continue to collect and collate backpacks.
• 

Pupils from S1  – S3 are away on a trip to M &D’s today. Hope they are wearing sun cream 🙂

Well done to all pupils who took part in the S3 Tech and Science IDL project on the 22/23/24th of May 2017.

Here is an extract from one of the pupils Diaries:

• On day one we went to the science department and learned how energy transfer works. Then we went to techi to start building the structure for the car
• On the second day we used the laser cutter to shape and cut out the design we chose we then used the glue gun to glue it on the structure
• On the third day we tested the cars to see who’s was the fastest
