Loch Eil Outward Bound Trip

On Monday 20th June a group of 60 pupils from Auchinleck Academy and Cumnock Academy set off to take part in a joint Adventure and Challenge Course at The Outward Bound Centre, Loch Eil near Fort William. This was an excellent opportunity for pupils and staff of both schools to work collaboratively.

The first activity on arrival was jog and dip, a jump into the cold loch in shorts and t-shirt. Over the course of the week the pupils experienced a variety of physical outdoor activities including an overnight expedition including some stunning beach locations. During each activity pupils were actively learning about the Scottish Outdoor Access Code including their responsibility for the natural environment.

The development and progress made by pupils over the week was outstanding. The change in how pupils thought and felt about themselves was important to build their personal, social and emotional skills so they become more effective individuals, whether in school, life or work.

It was a fantastic week and excellent to see Auchinleck Academy and Cumnock Academy pupils working together.

Pupils should wear sun cream if it is going to be sunny as they will spend a lot of time outside.

School Evacuation

Dear Parent/Guardian,

You will be aware that a number of schools across Scotland have recently received threatening calls from members of the public.

Today the police received one such call, from someone claiming to have placed an explosive device on our premises.

Although indications were that this was a hoax call, all pupils and staff were immediately evacuated as a precaution. As the call came close to the end of the school day, pupils were then allowed to go home as normal.

After a thorough search conducted with the help of the police and fire service , no such device was found, the school was deemed to be safe and staff were allowed to re-enter the building. The police are now following a definite line of enquiry.

School will open up to pupils as normal tomorrow morning.

Thank You

Colin MacLean Award

At Prizegiving each year we recognise the contributions that a senior pupil has made to the school.  Members of staff and pupils nominate senior pupils who they feel have made a considerable contribution to the life of the school.  This can be as a role model; as someone who has contributed their time and energy to supporting other young people in the school; as someone who stands out from the others in their drive to improve the life of the school or someone who has achieved success despite difficult circumstances.

The winner of this award will be chosen by a panel of staff and the award will be presented at Prizegiving on Thursday 16th June.

Nominations can come from individual members of staff, departments or fellow pupils.  To nominate a pupil for this award, please provide Mrs Macara with a short description of the young person’s role and contributions in support of the nomination.  Closing date for nominations is Tuesday 7th June.
