Online Learning – Monday 4 May 2020

Good morning all.  Staff have been working hard in the past few weeks to prepare a range of online learning for all pupils from new S2 – S6.

The work has been laid out for each year group in the documents below to allow pupils and parents to see what is expected of pupils this week.

The learning is not intended to replace school and formal teaching but to allow our young people to continue to engage in learning as much as they are able to over the next few weeks.

Head Teacher Letter

Dear Parent/Carer

New Timetable for The Robert Burns Academy – 4 May 2020

I hope that you and your family are keeping safe and well during this very difficult time.

I would like to thank you for your support in ensuring that our young people have the opportunity to continue their online learning from home. Our teachers have very much enjoyed working with those who have been able to engage with them!

As you will be aware, the advice from the Scottish Government regarding staying safe at home is likely to continue for several more weeks. With this in mind, we have taken the decision to start our new timetable for the Robert Burns Academy on Monday 4 May for all pupils currently in S1-S5.

This will mean that these pupils will become the new S2-S6 on that date.

The change will not affect the current P7s at this time.

Your child will be therefore be added to the new online Robert Burns Academy Microsoft Teams in preparation for the start of the new timetable on Monday.

For instructions on how to access the online learning please click on the link below:

https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/ea/AuchinleckAcademy/2020/03/19/online-learning/

We would ask pupils to log in to GLOW from Monday 4 May and begin to complete the Online Learning in each of their subjects in Microsoft Teams. This learning will provide ideal preparation for pupils moving on to the next level or starting new subjects so that when we return to school we are able to make good progress towards completing SQA Qualifications next May.

If you have any queries, if your child has not been added to a Team for subjects they have chosen or if they have been added to the wrong Team please email:

gw09auchinleckacasm@glow.sch.uk

Please note that the most important consideration is the wellbeing of your family and I completely understand that there may well be difficulties in completing online work.

There is therefore no expectation that the work provided is completed by everyone and I do not want this to be a source of anxiety for anyone at all. Be reassured that there will be opportunities for everyone to catch up when we do eventually get back to school.

SQA Results

I would ask parents/carers of senior pupils to please note that we are unable to discuss your child’s grades with you until after the SQA Results have been issued in August 2020.

Please continue to look after yourselves and your families and do not hesitate to get in touch via the email link above if you or your children need any support with our Online Learning programmes.

Best Wishes

Peter Gilchrist

Auchinleck Academy Curriculum Consultation – Feedback

All staff, pupils and parents were asked to respond to proposals to change our Curriculum model to bring both our school and Cumnock Academy in line to support a smoother transition during our merger. This will also allow the development of an exciting and innovative curriculum which will be implemented in The Robert Burns Academy in June 2020.

To view the new Curriculum Model click School Curriculum Update Tab above.

SQA Exam Timetable

SQA exams will start on Monday 30th April and will finish on Friday 1st June.  The dates, times and venues for each exam are available by clicking the link below:

SQA Pupil Timetable 2018

Please note that the start times might be different from the times stated on the exam timetable on the SQA website.  Pupils should make sure that they arrive to the exam venue on the day of the exam 10 minutes before the start of the exam.  Seat numbers will be displayed outside each venue.

Pupils will be issued individual timetables during PLP when we return from the Easter holidays showing the exams that they are being presented for, pupils should check their personal details on the timetable and let Mrs Macara know of any changes to address etc as these are the details that SQA hold for each candidate and the addresses that SQA will post exam certificates to.

Details of pupils who have alternative assessment arrangements will be shown on the individual exam timetables.

S4/5/6 pupils are expected to attend all of their timetabled classes until Friday 27th April.  Study leave will start on Monday 30th April and will finish on Friday 1st June.  All pupils should return to school on Monday 4th June to start their new timetable.

New Head Teacher Appointments

As from 23 October 2017, Mr Peter Gilchrist will be assuming the role of Acting Executive Head Teacher for both Auchinleck and Cumnock Academies with the overall responsibility for bringing the two school communities together as we move towards a merger of the 2 schools.

In the first instance, this will have two implications:

  • Mr Peter Gilchrist will move to Cumnock Academy to take over the post of Acting Head Teacher there
  • Mr Martin Robertson will assume the post of Acting Head Teacher in Auchinleck Academy

School Evacuation

Dear Parent/Guardian,

You will be aware that a number of schools across Scotland have recently received threatening calls from members of the public.

Today the police received one such call, from someone claiming to have placed an explosive device on our premises.

Although indications were that this was a hoax call, all pupils and staff were immediately evacuated as a precaution. As the call came close to the end of the school day, pupils were then allowed to go home as normal.

After a thorough search conducted with the help of the police and fire service , no such device was found, the school was deemed to be safe and staff were allowed to re-enter the building. The police are now following a definite line of enquiry.

School will open up to pupils as normal tomorrow morning.

Thank You

Peter Gilchrist
