The skills of scientific inquiry and investigation are developed throughout the Course, and the relevance of physics is highlighted by the study of the applications of physics in everyday contexts.

The elements of the Course are Knowledge and Understanding and Analytical Thinking Skills.

The following links will direct you to useful information for the Higher Physics course:

Higher Physics Course Specification

Higher Physics Coursework Assessment Task

SQA publishes samples of coursework and question paper responses with commentaries to fully understand examiner expectation for assignment and question papers.

Understanding Standards resources:

Understanding Standards Materials

Past Papers:

To help with revision click on the links below to open the past papers. Mechanics explores projectile motion under gravity, momentum conservation for docking space vehicles, and how gases behave. Electrical topics range from deflection of electron beams in vacuum tubes to electronic circuits for monitoring premature babies’ temperatures. At sub-microscopic level we investigate the structure of the atom, nuclear fission, lasers, radiation, safety and the dual wave and particle nature of light itself.

Students are challenged to aquire knowledge in depth, think logically and develop problem-solving strategies. Formal reporting on experiments requires competent expression in two “languages”, English and Mathematics.

For more information about Higher Chemistry click on the link below to open the Arrangement Documents.
