This week we are continuing to learn all about division. Children are encouraged to use practical materials at this stage – counters, pencils, pennies… as this will help to embed the concept of sharing/grouping.
At the moment we are exploring data handling in class. We have learned how to collect data using tally marks and are now moving onto displaying the data using graphs.
Children may wish to survey their friends and family about their favourite films, foods, animals etc.
Reminder: We have been learning about split phonemes (also known as split diagraphs). We also sometimes refer to the ‘e’ at the end as a ‘magic e’ or ‘silent e’. Encourage your child to say the words along with these videos.
Explore the Topmarks Literacy games to help revise common words and other sounds:
Or look back over the common words we have posted on this homework tab.
Teachers have updated children’s Bug Club accounts and there are some new reading books, phonics and maths games. Within their account each child should have a Reading Corner option which provides even more books to read for enjoyment.
Numeracy Resources
This week we are further exploring the concept of fractions and then we will focus on halves and quarters. Learners have already discussed this while exploring telling the time.
This Active Maths game (on Bug Club accounts) challenges learners to identify 1/2s and 1/4s of shapes:

This week is the split phoneme o_e as in rope (also known as a split diagraph). We say ‘split’ because two single phonemes are split up from each other by another letter. We sometimes call these ‘magic e’ words because the ‘e’ changes the sound of the vowel, e.g. hop becomes hope.
