On Monday the 17th November, the whole school was involved with Outdoor Classroom Day. The P4/5’s needed to wrap up in warm clothes as it was very cold! For part of the day we learned about road safety – in particular driver blind spots and stopping distances. We sat inside a car and had a classmate walk around it. We realised we couldn’t see then all the way around – which is a blind spot. We also looked at stopping distances and were shocked to see how long it takes for a car to stop at 20 and 30mph! If it was 60mph, the stopping distance would have been bigger than the bottom playground, through the school fence and into the houses beyond!
We also had fun at the fire pit. We learned about fire safety, what we need to make fire (fuel, oxygen and a spark)and what 4 energies we get from fire (Heat, Light, Sound and Kinetic). Mr Matier has challenged us to remember what Kinetic energy is so please ask us when you see this!
We finished off with making S’mores. This was yummy and our favourite part!
