The Scottish SPCA has launched a free toolkit to educate primary and secondary school pupils about recognition of animals\u2019 emotions and the important role animals can play in humans\u2019 lives regardless of how young or old you are.<\/p>\n

With World Storytelling Day on 20 March 2022, we\u2019re delighted to have teamed up with retired police dog, \u2018Fabulous Finn\u2019 and his owner and handler, PC Dave Wardell, to bring the human-animal bond to life through sharing real stories.<\/p>\n

The Fabulous Finn toolkit links to all areas of the Curriculum for Excellence and through the use of\u00a0videos, interactive games and an activity booklet, provides a variety of ways to engage. We have separate toolkits tailored to primary and secondary levels which can be accessed via the Scottish SPCA website: https:\/\/www.scottishspca.org\/fabulous-finn<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

We\u2019re encouraging schools to utilise this resource to help children and young people recognise that animals have emotions too and that they can help us live school values such as resilience, confidence and strength. The story of Fabulous Finn is a great example of how having a relationship with an animal can have a huge impact on someone\u2019s life and support positive mental health and wellbeing.<\/p>\n

Schools will also have the opportunity to meet Dave and Finn at the Society\u2019s virtual events on Friday 25 March. School teachers or parents\/carers can sign up at: https:\/\/meetfabulousfinn.eventbrite.co.uk<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

We hope children and young people (and the grown-ups!) will enjoy learning about Finn\u2019s story and engaging with the toolkit.<\/p>\n
