Heel, toe, heel, toe with Primary 3!

The lads and lassies in Primary 3 have been learning the Military Two-Step over the past few weeks and they became so confident that they invited the P2 class to join them for a dance. They then taught the P2 pupils all the steps of the dance and even how to do a proper yelping, ‘Yeeeehaaw!’.  Great fun was had by all and we’ve definitely got some movers in our ranks!

Burns Day

Burns Day was celebrated in Nursery with tartan printing, dancing, singing and Scots poetry.  We also had a special snack of haggis, neeps and tatties which went down a treat with the children.  Ask your child to sing Katie Beardie, Ally Bally or Heid, Shooders, Shanks and Taes.  You will be very entertained!

Snow Fun

Last Monday was a great day for fun in the Nursery garden.  We all wrapped up really well and went outside to enjoy the snow.  We spent the whole morning making snow angels and snowmen.

We all worked out different ways to move the snow around the garden.  We had to really use our muscles.

We were very pleased with our creations.

Ice Blocks

The children kept checking their cups every day but on Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th January they were still filled with water and their objects.

Finally on Wednesday 20th January there were squeals of excitement from the garden when the children discovered the water had finally frozen.

There was lots of discussion about what had happened and what the ice felt like.  The children enjoyed looking at the objects inside the ice.

We learned that we need to be very patient when we are doing an experiment.

Dog Fouling

We have a real problem with dog fouling outside our school so we are trying to take action. The local Community Wardens have put up signs outside the school with members of our Eco Group. The Wardens are coming to talk to the all of the children about dog fouling next week. They will run a poster competition and provide prizes. They will also try to increase their presence outside the school.

If you do see someone letting their dog foul, please encourage them to pick it up. If you have any more ideas as to how we can reduce the problem, please talk to a member of staff.

Fire Safety

Primary 6 had a very informative fire safety talk today.  They asked great questions, learned how to identify potential fire hazards in the home and they can now check their own homes to ensure they are as safe as possible.

One issue which was brought up was ensuring every household has at least one working smoke alarm.  The fire service offer a FREE home fire safety visit to all households and will come at a time suitable to you to help you check your alarm, fit new alarms, spot potential hazards and give general advice and guidance.  They can be contacted on 01387 252222 or visit www.firescotland.gov.uk.

Something else which P6 were asked to do is to make a fire plan.  This could be a family discussion about what to do if there was a fire in the home or you could even have a practice fire drill like we do in school.  It is a worthwhile activity for everyone to do so that every member of the family is clear about what they should do (or not do) in the event of a fire.
