World Book Day – 3rd March 2016

The whole school took part in our World Book Day event, wearing our pyjamas or onesies.  Primary 3 and Primary 4 got together to explore and read books to each other in our School Library.

World Book Day – P5 and P2 Reading Fun!

As part of World Book Day, all of the children were given the opportunity to make new friends and share their favourite books with children from other classes. The children in Primary 5 and Primary 2 enjoyed the experience of talking about their favourite stories and reading to other people. Hopefully they will go home with some ideas of new books they might like to read.

TSB ‘Piggy Bank Parade’ Competition

A few weeks ago St Ninian’s was chosen to take part in a local competition run by TSB Bank. Each child was asked to design a piggy bank to take part in the bank’s ‘Piggy Bank Parade’. Three of the designs would be selected to be transformed into real piggy banks. These banks would then be put on display in the Dumfries TSB branch and customers could pick their favourite by filling the banks with any loose change. All money raised will be given to local charity ‘Nith Inshore Rescue’. The staff at the bank couldn’t believe the high standard of all the entries and it was a difficult decision choosing just three winners. A big congratulations go to the three winners:

A big well done to everyone who took part. If you go into the TSB branch next week you might even be able to spot your design hiding on the wall.

Primary 4 and Zoolab!

Primary 4 had a terrific time holding snakes, a tree frog and cockroaches! We were learning all about animals and how to classify them. Please enjoy our photographs.

Body lifts. We tap our partner’s leg, arm or head and they lift it from the ground. It sounds easy but the person on the floor has their eyes shut and must react to being tapped as quickly as possible.

Primary Five – Creepy Critters!

Today in Primary Five we were joined by some very unusual visitors. The people from Zoolab came to tell us all about different types of animals – and they didn’t come alone! We were able to see some of the exciting animals up close – and some of us were even brave enough to touch them! The whole class really enjoyed the morning and we were able to learn lots of facts that will help us in our upcoming ‘Animal Classification’ topic.

A new member of P6!

On Wednesday, Primary 6 welcomed a very young addition to our class – Kalli’s sister Aria Mae.  She came to visit us to help us understand how we grow and develop throughout our lives.  Aria Mae’s mum Hazel helped us to understand what she does to help and support her children at each stage of their lives.  We then considered the skills and qualities a parent or carer requires.  Some words we used were ‘responsible’, ‘mature’, ‘supportive’ and ‘brave’.

Thank you to Hazel and Aria Mae for giving up your time to help us further our learning.  When the time comes, I am sure Primary 6 will become excellent parents!

Chinese New Year Fun!

Today Primary 1/2 and 2 joined Primary 1 for a celebration of Chinese New Year. Firstly, we all listened to the story of how the Chinese New Year came about. We then discussed how the Chinese celebrate their New Year. After this, we completed different activities. Some of us made Chinese dragons out of Lego to chase the evil spirits away. We also made Chinese Lanterns and even had a go at doing some Chinese writing. We had some great waiters and waitresses to serve us some prawn crackers too.

Pancake Day

Tuesday was a lot of fun in Nursery as we dressed up as chefs and had a pancake tossing competition. The pancakes didn’t always land back in the pan but it was great fun.

We had lots of different toppings on our pancakes at snack time.  They were delicious!
