This morning, Primary 6 visited Tesco as part of out ‘Food Glorious Food’ project. We have been learning about where our food comes from and the processes it goes through before we get to eat it.
In class, we have learned about the seasonality of food and the reasons why we should eat local, seasonal food. We have also learned that some foods only come from different countries and today we got the opportunity to find out where the fruits and vegetables in Tesco have been produced.
Everyone got the chance to taste some fresh fruit including pineapple, blackberry, raspberry and mango. Kieran was very nervous about tasting fruit but gave the mango a go and loved it. Paris and Emma tried an unusual fruit called a physallis. They were not so keen on this one.
Next, we learned about the different jobs available in Tesco and met some different staff members.
Finally, we looked at the sugar content of cereals and then we got to make our own muesli to try.
Hopefully P6 will comment on how much they liked their muesli – watch this space.
Thank you to Miss Potts and Miss Walker for assisting with the trip.
