As part of their learning about Bridges, P6 and P7 travelled to the Forth Bridges today, to participate in an engineering challenge. They had to work independently, in pairs, in groups and then in one large group to create a structure that was 4 metres tall! The children were given roles such as teacher, team leader, builders and anchors. They were successful, of course! Elaine Barrie, our guide and leader, praised our children highly for their behaviour, ambition, initiative and resourcefulness.
After the challenge, we walked across the Forth Road Bridge. We had a first-hand experience of the impressive construction of the bridge, the vibration effect as traffic passed and the outstanding views of the Forth Rail Bridge, Queensferry Crossing, River Forth and surrounding areas.
Finally, as an extra treat, the driver agreed to drive us over the brand new Queensferry Crossing. It was a pleasure to hear the whoops of delight as the children realised where they were going over.
