Vikings and Ice Cream!

Primary 3/4 had a fantastic time at the Stewartry Museum and Cream O’Galloway.

They got to see lots of Viking artefacts and try on some really heavy chain mail.

As a reward for all their hard work this term, the children enjoyed an afternoon in the adventure playground at Cream O’Galloway and even got an ice cream.

Well done P3/4.

Transition Visits

We are all getting excited about moving to our new school.  So that we can get to know people before we go Lochside Nursery have been coming to visit us on a Tuesday morning.  We have also been going to visit our friends at Lochside Nursery on a Wednesday afternoon.

Next term we will swap over so the morning children get to visit Lochside and Lochside Nursery can make friends with our afternoon children.

The children are already very confident in the new settings and are chatting and sharing well with each other.

P1 Farm Visit

On Monday, both Primary 1 classes went on a visit to the Barony Farm. This was to look at the journey of milk linked to their topic on Healthy Eating and Where food comes from. We had a great time. Have a look at what we were up to:

Engineers in the Making

As part of their learning about Bridges, P6 and P7 travelled to the Forth Bridges today, to participate in an engineering challenge. They had to work independently, in pairs, in groups and then in one large group to create a structure that was 4 metres tall! The children were given roles such as teacher, team leader, builders and anchors. They were successful, of course! Elaine Barrie, our guide and leader, praised our children highly for their behaviour, ambition, initiative and resourcefulness.

After the challenge, we walked across the Forth Road Bridge. We had a first-hand experience of the impressive construction of the bridge, the vibration effect as traffic passed and the outstanding views of the Forth Rail Bridge, Queensferry Crossing, River Forth and surrounding areas.

Finally, as an extra treat, the driver agreed to drive us over the brand new Queensferry Crossing. It was a pleasure to hear the whoops of delight as the children realised where they were going over.

Answer the questions below by commenting. Two Dojos for each correct answer.

  1. What is a civil engineer?
  2. Name another type of engineer.
  3. What is the strongest 2D shape?
  4. What was the name of the 3D shape we constructed today?
  5. How many dowels did it take to build one of these 3D shapes
  6. What is the hardest natural material?
  7. What are the three Eco ‘R’ words?
  8. What was the name of the bridge that we walked over?
  9. What type of bridge is it (we talked about this in class)?
  10. What was the name of the bridge we drove over?
