Today, P7 spent the afternoon with Emily and Sheila, final year student nurses, learning about dementia. They found out about what different parts of the brain do and that some parts can deteriorate. Later, they learned about what dementia can look and feel like. They tried on goggles to limit their vision and discovered how challenging a simple written task can be. They were given lumpy insoles to put in their shoes to give an uncomfortable, off-balance feeling as they walked. Finally, they tried to do simple things like fasten buttons and pick up things wearing large rubber gloves. We all developed a greater understanding and empathy for people who struggle with what seem like simple tasks. Thank you to Emily and Sheila for their time.
