P5, P6 and P7 Fantastic Mr Fox V’s Sleekit Mr Tod

Yesterday, 31st October, Primary 5, 6 and 7 pupils had a great day away to Glasgow Film Theatre. We went to watch Fantastic Mr Fox and listen to the Scot’s translated version, Sleekit Mr Tod.

The reviews of the film were mixed. Some of us really enjoyed the film; we though it was fast-paced, it had a great story line and was very well made. Others thought the film was intense, funny and action-packed. We thought this film was quite different; it wasn’t digitally animated and so didn’t have a cartoon-feel which we really liked and the characters were voiced well by actors which meant the characters spoke really clearly. The film brought out lots of emotion; from sympathy for Fantastic Mr Fox and Rat, to anger at the Farmer’s and their workforces. We would definitely recommend this film.

Unfortunately, some of us didn’t quite enjoy the film as much as others. Some thought is was aimed at much younger children; yet there was quite a lot of violence through-out the film which we thought was inappropriate for the audience. Some thought the film lacked excitement, that there were repeating themes and that some parts made the film too sad. That said, we had a good day out!

We were fortunate enough to hear Sleekit Mr Tod being read aloud in Scots. We thought this was good, as the reader was confident and could read Scot’s words clearly and he could explain what the words meant. Also, the reader read accurately and helped us to picture the story in our heads. We thought the reader was funny; he used great expression which helped the story become more interesting and lively.

Watch the film to find out if Fantastic Mr Fox and his family outsmart their rivals!

A big thank you to our adult helpers, without whom we would have been unable to attend. A huge thank you to all our pupils, who represented our school fantastically well!
