We had a visit from Fiona Jamieson from RHET last Monday. She talked to us about different types of farming and what we might find on a farm. This was to help prepare us for our Farm visit which took place today. She let us have a go of making our own butter from cream, a little water and a LOT of shaking.
Today, we made our way to Crochmore farm to experience a dairy farm for ourselves. After a little ‘adventure’ on the way, we finally arrived and met the farmer, Angus, and his dad Douglas.
We got to meet lots of cows, watch them being milked and learned what they ate.
We then looked at the crops that are grown on the farm and learned how they are cared for.
Finally, we got to meet some newborn calves.
We were very lucky to be able to feed them milk from a bottle and some solid food.
We also got to see a couple of calves getting their ear tags put on. Luckily they didn’t cry.
Watch Dylan feeding this calf!
We had a wonderful morning and learned loads! We wanted to stay all day!
Thank you so very much to Fiona and Angus for allowing us to visit.
