Today, Miss Lisi took the whole school to the library for our first Buddy Reading session of the new school year!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Buddy Reading was incredibly popular with our pupils last session, so we were very excited to bring it back \u2013 this time with new reading buddies<\/strong>. Our older and younger pupils were paired together, and they took to their new partnerships fantastically. \ud83c\udf1f<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The library was soon filled with children reading together, sharing stories, talking about books and helping one another with unfamiliar words<\/strong>. Our older pupils showed wonderful patience and encouragement towards their younger buddies, while our younger pupils were excited to share their reading skills and favourite stories. \u2764\ufe0f<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some pairs became so engrossed in their books that they even managed to finish a whole book together during the session!<\/strong> \ud83d\udcd6\ud83d\udc4f<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We heard lots of lovely comments throughout the session, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udcac \u201cI like helping my buddy when they get stuck on a word.\u201d<\/em>
\ud83d\udcac \u201cWe finished our whole book!\u201d<\/em>
\ud83d\udcac \u201cMy buddy helped me sound out a tricky word.\u201d<\/em>
\ud83d\udcac \u201cCan we do Buddy Reading again next week?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As well as developing reading fluency, confidence, vocabulary and comprehension<\/strong>, Buddy Reading gives our pupils a wonderful opportunity to build relationships across different stages of the school. It was lovely to see our older children taking responsibility for supporting and encouraging younger pupils, and to see just how quickly our new buddy partnerships began to develop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judging by the smiles \u2013 and the requests to do it again \u2013 we think Buddy Reading definitely needs to become a regular part of our school year!<\/strong> \ud83d\udcda\u2764\ufe0f<\/p>\n\n\n\n
