P1\u20134 pupils from St Joseph\u2019s Primary and Portpatrick Primary had a fantastic STEM-filled day at Stranraer College, where we looked into the amazing world of the human body, animals, and genetics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We began by learning all about our bodies and what they are made up of. Pupils explored bones and organs, discussing their important jobs and how they help keep us healthy. Working creatively, the children built their own human models, carefully adding bones and organs before designing a unique outer skin. We then applied the same learning to animals, thinking about how animal bodies are similar and different to ours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next, we rotated to a genetics workshop, where pupils learned how genes influence how we look. Using the genes they were given, children designed their very own sheep \u2013 no two were the same! This activity sparked great discussions, problem-solving, and lots of excitement as pupils discovered how traits are passed on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout the day, pupils demonstrated excellent teamwork, curiosity, and creativity while building new friendships and confidence in a real college STEM environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
