Today, Primary 7 students at St. Joseph\u2019s had a fantastic opportunity to participate in a British Sign Language (BSL) workshop led by our wonderful partners from SCILT, Karen Faulds and David.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The session kicked off with an introduction to finger spelling, where students began by learning the vowels before moving on to consonants. This hands-on approach helped our learners get comfortable with the foundations of BSL and appreciate the beauty of communication beyond spoken words. It was tricky as times, as the actions are reversed for our left handed pupils.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BSL simplifies sentences and questions to make it more direct e.g. Name, yours, what ? to ask someone what their name is. The children practiced this beautifully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Primary 5 and 6 were away enjoying an author organised by the Scottish Book Trust, our Primary 7 pupils enthusiastically engaged with the BSL activities, demonstrating focus and enthusiasm throughout the session. Myra confidently demonstrated signing her name for the inter-school Teams group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019re grateful to Karen, David, and the SCILT team for providing such an enriching experience, helping our students develop new skills and broaden their understanding of inclusive communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
