Bullying

In Dumfries and Galloway, we know that bullying can have a significant impact on a child or young person’s wellbeing and their ability to attend school regularly. If your child is anxious about coming to school, experiencing friendship difficulties, or reporting bullying behaviour, it is important that you let us know as early as possible.

Regular attendance is essential for learning, relationships and confidence. When children and young people miss school because they feel unsafe or worried, it can quickly affect both attainment and wellbeing.

By working together, we can:

  • Listen to your child’s concerns and take them seriously
  • Put appropriate supports in place
  • Monitor attendance sensitively and support a return to school if needed
  • Work with partners to ensure your child feels safe and included

All schools in Dumfries and Galloway follow national guidance, including Respect for All, which underpins Scotland’s approach to anti-bullying. We are committed to responding proportionately, fairly and with a focus on restoring relationships.
