Sanquhar Primary School was opened in 1981 (With an extension finished in 2003), to serve the community of Sanquhar and lies in the Upper Nithsdale area of Dumfries and Galloway.  The school caters for stages Nursery to Primary 7 i.e. ages 2-12.  It is a non-denominational school with a roll of  approximately 207. We also have the Sanquhar Learning Centre for pupils with severe and complex learning difficulties.

The school building is a single storey.  It has 7 classes as well as 2 rooms to support our Learning Centre, as well as a large space for the Early Learning and Childcare children and staff.   There are also a number of ‘quiet’ rooms for Nurture, Music instruction, Learning Support, Meetings etc.

Externally there are extensive areas of grass and areas of hard surface close to the school.  There is a closed off play space for the ELC and Learning Centre children beside their indoor spaces.  We have a garden area and an outside classroom.  There is a car park, which serves the needs of staff and visitors to the school.

Our current P7 pupils made a film about the school and local community.
