Learning and Teaching

Our Classes

Within S1- S3 our classes are split into mixed ability groups. Our non-practical sets have up to 33 learners and our practical class have up to 20 learners.  In most year groups there are 2 non-practical classes, named after our house groups W (Wilson House) and D (Duff House).  You will commonly see your child’s class named 1W, for S1 Wilson House.  Practical groups are numbered 1-3 and are also mixed ability groups.  For this class name it is 1.1 meaning S1 group 1.

Within the Senior Phase our learners remain with house groups, the class name changes to match the year group of your child i.e. 4W is a learner in 4th Year, Wilson House.

Each child is also allocated a Tutor Group.  This class group is a a mixed group of S1-S6 learners who work closely with an identified member of staff for daily check-in’s, mentoring, tracking interventions and to support peer tutoring.  As of June 2025, Tutor will take place daily for 15 mins just before break.
