{"id":11817,"date":"2022-09-21T10:35:15","date_gmt":"2022-09-21T10:35:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/dg\/portpatrickprimary\/?p=11817"},"modified":"2022-09-21T10:35:15","modified_gmt":"2022-09-21T10:35:15","slug":"musum-on-the-mound","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/dg\/portpatrickprimary\/?p=11817","title":{"rendered":"MUS\u00a3UM on the MOUND"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As part of our upcoming Maths Week Scotland event starting soon, Primary 5 \u2013 7 met with Gillian from the Museum on the Mound in Edinburgh today.\u00a0 We participated in a live online, interactive workshop to explore the <em>History of Money<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The session began by discussing what do we use money for?\u00a0 The children came up with the explanations that we use it to exchange something to get something else. It would take one person over a year to make a tevau, thus it was a very valuable item.\u00a0 Cameron stepped out 9 metres with string in the classroom. It was 40 of his foot lengths. One tea brick weighed about 1kg and would dissolve if wet.<\/p>\n<p>Group 2 \u2013 Cocoa beans pods.\u00a0 These were used by the Aztecs in Mexico as money and were valuable and used in lots of ways; to drink, buy things with them.\u00a0 A rabbit would cost 35 cocoa beans.
