Shadows

P1/2 made the most of the sunny weather by investigating shadows in the playground.

They all observed the direction of their own shadow and were then given 10 seconds to make their shadows lie in the opposite direction. They moved quickly in an attempt to succeed in this task. They found out that their shadows were still at the same side.

They observed the sky and found out the location of the sun.

This is what they said:

Amy- When we look at the sun our shadow is behind us.

Nell- My shadow is disappearing!

Connor- That is because the sun is behind the clouds.

Overall, the pupils discovered that a source of light is needed to create shadows. They talked about how their bodies block the sun and that shadows look dark.

They were set a ‘Peter Pan’ challenge to run away from their shadows. They had great fun!
