Please remember to send your child with suncream on, or to reapply and a sunhat/cap as we will be outside enjoying the weather at playtimes, practising for sports and maybe even eating our lunch. This is the last of our short weeks as head towards the summer holidays.

Thank you to Jemma & Caroline for Bikeability for P7 last week. It is great to hear the buzz from the children as they
gain confidence in a new skill. We can now hope they will take this with them & keep safe out and about on the roads
over the summer months.

Our netballers took to the court for their first league night on Wednesday. The games were all friendlies but the team
all played extremely well, winning two out of their three games comfortably so spirits are high. This week we are just
in school on Wednesday for our next training session. We can always improve and develop our skills.

Then on Thursday it was the return of the football league in glorious sunshine. Team Kirkcowan played extremely well
with a draw against Wigtown and two wins under their belt. They were quietly confident as they headed home with
only one more league night to play ahead of the finals play off night. Football club will be on Tuesday lunchtime this
week.

In school we have been busy working hard across the curriculum with lessons inside and out this week. P5-7 with Miss
Hudson were filtering water and learning the importance of STEM in our daily lives. P1-4 were learning new skills in PEand Nursery have been creating obstacle courses and exploring the local area again, as well as visiting the Autumn Club.
The most exciting day of our week was Friday where Mr Sullivan had organised a Career Fair. We had fifteen tables set
up both inside and out. The children from P1-7 moved around in groups of 3 & Nursery joined in too going round
together. Everyone asked questions to get inspiration for future jobs. The children were able to meet with: Eddie
McGaw, mobile tyre fitter; Callum Adams, apprentice engineer at Gordons/farmer; Police Scotland; Helen Miller, 3B
Construction; Mark Sheer, Developing Young Workforce D&G Council; Susan Morris-Marsh & Sarah Lawson, Creebridge Pharmacy; Jemma McNeill, Consultancy skills; Charlie McNeill, virtual Sawmill Business; Emma McWhirter, Teacher; Stephen Drysdale, Chef; Jacqueline Stewart, Aldi Depute Manager; Libby Adams, Archaeologist; Eleanor McCracken, Vet; Richard Marsh, Poultry Farmer/Local Councillor& Sarah-Louise Plant, artist. It was a busy inspiring morning with the children chatting to everyone.

Thank you to you all for your help in coming along or contacting people for us. I also know many of you would have
liked to come along too but understandably had clashes in your diary so hopefully you will be able to help in the future.

Next week P4 return to swimming on Monday, Tuesday & Thursday. We also look forward to welcoming as many of
you as you can into school. Our final parent engagement sessions of the year are on Monday afternoon 1.30-3pm or
Thursday morning 9-10.30am(no P4s during this session due to swimming). Our focus this time is on maths, specifically number and the importance of number talks. This looks at the children being confident in describing how they worked something out, the strategy that they have used. As before each session will start with a cuppa & introduction from me then time in your child’s class/classes. We totally appreciate that so many of you like us are working so if you are unable to attend you are very welcome to send a family member but please reply to let us know.

As always please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you need anything at all email me on
gw08andrewskirsty@ea.dumgal.sch.uk
‘Together we succeed’

Dear Parent/Carer What another week of gorgeous weather we have had to enjoy as May is now well and truly underway.
