Dear Parent/Carer
This week has seen the children busy as a whole school relating their book for Kirkcowan Flower Show. They have
written the story, created the artwork for the illustrations and typed it all up. Each child from Nursery to P7 has also
created an individual entry, they have been very creative. So if you are able to please pop along to Kirkcowan village
hall on Saturday from 2-5pm.

In school we are settling back into our routines really well. At assembly today P7 presented their speeches about the
qualities they will share as Chair of our committees. This year they will have a different focus with all of the children
leading all aspects of school development. The P7s have also asked that we fundraise not for Children in Need and
Comic Relief this year but for more local charities so we will share more details of these soon. I was extremely proud of
our P7s, as you should be as they were all articulate, confident and had really thought very carefully about the key features of their speech and the differences they would like to make in our school. I look forward to watching them take
these ideas forward as the year progresses.

Lighthouse Musicians started with Nursery & P1-4 this week and all the children enjoyed singing, games and learning
about musical notes. Plans are also being made for the return of lunchtime clubs run by Active Schools, booking Lockerbie Manor for P6/7 residential later in the year, confirmation of our Christmas Show on Thursday 11th December and
lots of other things.

Looking ahead we have our P1 families chat with Mrs McWhirter on Tuesday 9th September form 2.15pm. It will be a
quick chat & cuppa with me & then a chance to meet and speak to Mrs McWhirter with any questions you might have
about your child’s P1 year and their introduction to life at Kirkcowan Primary.

Thank you to those of you who have already said your child would be interested in introducing an author at this years
Big Wig section of Wigtown Book Festival. I will be in touch soon with details of which event and to share copies of the
book to help write the introduction.

As always please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you need anything at all email me on
