Dear Parent/Carer
What a busy week we have had settling back into the routines of school life. It has been a pleasure to chat with the
children and hear their news and ideas for our new school year.
I met with the P7s to get their views and ideas on how we shape their roles and activities within Kirkcowan Primary this
year. I have no doubt they are going to be great role models and leaders with the school. They are definitely set to rise
to all the challenges and are preparing their speeches for our new look committees, exciting times ahead.
Our assembly this week looked at the priorities for our school year. These are:
-to further develop our maths skills and knowledge through Numicon with new activities in
class and teachers attending training.
-To achieve Gold Rights Respecting School award by working together with our community and
learning how we can influence national issues.
-To achieve Gold Sports Scotland award through our in school activities like
playmakers and active school clubs & events. To continue to offer football & netball league
opportunities.
-To continue on our Digital Schools journey by encouraging all our families to use our new
app and look at our new school blog.
-To make use of our amazing outdoors to take our learning outside the classroom.
To welcome our families into school for learning sessions in literacy, numeracy and
developing the young workforce.
-To use our big books, fab folders and PLPs confidently and be able to tell our families and Mrs Andrews
what we are learning.
Please remember to support our great local community events and this weekend has the Fun in the Park
between 1-4pm on Saturday 30th August (tomorrow) so if you can go along & join in the fun. I hope that the weather is
kind to you all.
Mrs McWhirter has been in touch with our families of children in P1 to arrange a meeting together to welcome you all
into our school family and answer any questions you might have in these early days. The children have all settled so
well and are already confident within the school.
For all families our first parents learning conversations will be on Thursday 2nd October. Mrs Milven will be in touch
nearer the time to ask if you would prefer an afternoon or evening appointment with your child’s teacher.
Our first parent Council meeting is on Wednesday 17th September at 6.30pm, everyone is welcome. Jemma McNeill
continues her role as Chair person so more information will follow but please know it is a chance to shape decisions
about the school and be involved in raising funds for wider experiences we can offer the
children.
As always please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you need anything at all email me on
