Dear Parent/Carer
This week the children have been continuing to enjoy the good weather. Our P5/6 Forest Schools group & P7 Bikeability have been able to be active and busy outside.
We held our Parent Council AGM on Wednesday night. Jemma McNeill will continue as chairperson, Anne Connick as Secretary & Caroline Wilson as Friends of Kirkcowan. Thank you to everyone who continues to support the school through parent council taking on the office bearer roles, attending the meetings, fundraising for the school and attending events. Your role as parents and families is vital.
At the following meeting we planned ahead for the Summer Fete which will be held on Saturday 31st May 12-2pm. We are in desperate need of your support to help set up, run a stall and help tidy away after the event. We are also looking for any donations you can send in for the tombola, raffle or baking. These can be handed in to the school or to a member of the parent council. As well as the office bearers above our committee members are: Kerri Flannigan, Nichola Rudd, Susan Morris-Marsh, Cat Adams & Jillian Johnstone.
If tombola & raffle could be handed in by Friday 23rd May at the latest please to allow us to make up hampers etc. Please reply on the Microsoft form sent out by Mrs Milven.
We hope that you will be able to come & enjoy the fete & spread the word to all your family and friends. The fete is supported once again by KCDT & Kilgalioch Windfarm meaning that the face painting and inflatables are free for all children.
Our netball team together with Wigtown attended the Merrick on Thursday after school. It is a great experience for the children to experience the size of the court, practise the types of passes and the stamina involved in running around. They all did extremely well and many left with faces as red as their Kirkcowan kit. They are a new team and it was lovely to see their confidence grow. We return to the Merrick next week on Wednesday after school 3.30-5pm for the start of our league visits against other teams. This first night are only friendlies so will allow another chance for confidence to be built. Please can I stress that unfortunately there is no room for spectators in the games hall, there is only room for the other teams and their coaches.
Looking ahead we also have football league at Blairmount. The team had a fantastic start winning both of their matches. I look forward to watching them build on this as they gel as a team.
Then on Friday we have our Careers Day where Mr Sullivan has arranged with lots of you to come in & share your jobs with the children. This is part of our work on Developing the Young Workforce and gives relevance to the children on why it is important to learn skills in literacy, numeracy, ICT etc to give them skills for Learning, Life and Work.
As always please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you need anything at all email me on gw08andrewskirsty@ea.dumgal.sch.uk
