It has been a pleasure to welcome everyone back to the start of our summer term. All the children and staff have returned looking sun kissed after the fantastic spell of weather we had during our fortnights holiday. This has also continued on the whole during the last two weeks and we have been able to get out and about to enjoy a wide range of activities.
I need to start with sharing our excitement that Finlay & Macey represented the school last week at the D&G round of The Young Engineer K’nex challenge. Our dynamic duo won the D&G round meaning that they now head off to Glasgow in May. They were praised for their teamwork, planning, evaluating and final tweaks in creating their digger. We are so proud of them & wish them every success for their Glasgow challenge.
P5/6 have started Forest Schools with Shalla, they have had extremes of weather with torrential rain last week & beautiful sunshine this week but both have seen the children full of enthusiasm and fun. The hot chocolate in the woods has certainly been a huge hit.
Last Wednesday we held our annual Easter Service. Thank to everyone who was able to attend. Our P7s read extremely well and we enjoyed learning about Easter around the world. P1-4s song with an amazing solo from Esme was a highlight. We also presented our P7s with their Leavers hoodies as they embark on the preparation for the next stage in their education journey.
This week P5 have enjoyed their middle trip to the River Cree hatchery. This time they were able to view the young salmon and release them into the burn to begin their long journey out to sea. The children all enjoyed being part of the process and learned lots about the life of salmon.
Then P6/7 headed off in sunshine to Machars Cross Country at Blairmount. It was another successful day with team success for our relay team of Andrew, Logan & Milly finishing in 1st place. There were individual success too for Milly who was 1st in P7 girls mile & Angus who was 1st in P6/7 boys ½ mile. Scoring was changed this year to combine scores across partnership meaning that our partnership of Kirkcowan & Wigtown finished in overall 2nd place. Fantastic work everyone
Our assembly this week was good work shared by P5-7. We all enjoyed a look through their keyhole at their writing, artwork, maths and topic work on growing their own vegetables and herbs.
Yesterday saw the start of the football league at Blairmount on what was a perfect night. The children all played really well and it is great to get all these events back onto our sporting calendar.
Next week sees the beginning of curriculum swimming for our P4s. This is the start of our block with lessons on Monday, Tuesday & Thursday mornings. We will join Wigtown at the pool & enjoy some time together as a partnership.
Parent Council AGM is on Wednesday 30th at 6.30pm, everyone is welcome.
