P5’s 2nd Visit to the Salmon Fish Hatchery

The P5’s enjoyed their second visit to the salmon fish hatchery today.  This time they met the eggs that had hatched into small sparlings (baby salmon fish).  They had a talk about what happens next once they are released in the river, including their survival chances and what the dangers that lie ahead are.  The children then released their sparlings into the river.  Once they had done this, the children took a sample of the river water and used identification charts to identify a range of plant and animal life in the river.  The children are especially looking forward to their 3rd and final visit, where they are going fishing for brown trout, and if they catch one, they can take it home

for their dinner!
