Dear Parent/Carer
This week ends with blustery winds but dry days so hopefully this means we are going to have a good start to our holiday weather. We finish today for two weeks returning to school on Monday 14th April. We then have 2 short weeks with Good Friday & Easter Monday holidays too.
This week Nursey have enjoyed a visit from Zoolab where the children loved meeting & learning about the insects and creatures. It is such a fantastic way for them to learn about snakes shedding their skin & that tarantulas panic and leave behind hairs form their legs if they are in danger.
Children from P6/7 represented the school at the annual Basketball Festival at Whithorn Primary. It was run by active schools and there was a small school league for schools with 2 or less teachers and a large school league for schools with 3 or more teachers. It was a successful day as not only did the children represent the school extremely well they also were winners of the Small School league for the second year running. It was a successful partnership day as Wigtown won the Large School league too.
Today P6s from across the cluster are gathering at the DEHS for a day of film making. There are 4 different workshops for them to take part in & learn new skills – 1. Different types of shots & what they mean; 2. Films in Scotland; 3. Storyboarding, creating a film by drawing pictures & 4. Silent film, creating a silent film. I am sure they will be full of knowledge about the new skills they have learned.
Looking ahead we have our Easter Service at Kirkcowan Parish Church on Wednesday 16th April at 9.30am. Each class will share a little Easter or Spring item & our P7s will be presented with their leavers hoodies.
Our summer term then gets fully underway with the start of the football & netball league, P5 visiting the hatchery and plans being made for P6/7 Cultural trip, our Parent Council AGM is also Wednesday 30th April at 6.30pm, Bikeability for P7s and Forest School for P5/6. We will also share dates for sports day and leavers service on our return.
All that remains for me to do is to wish you all a lovely break over the Spring holiday and I look forward to welcoming you back into our final term of this school year.
