Dear Parent/Carer
This week started with our Scots Concert in the village hall. All of the children from Nursery to P7 were stars and sang, danced ad recited their hearts out. Thank you also to all of you for being such great sports in joining in the rather chaotic dancing, next time we will make sure the music is somewhere that it won’t jump!
Tuesday was the annual visit of our school photographer and those of you who requested photographs should have got the slip with the link to your child’s photographs. Codes have also been shared for P1 & P7 class photographs. It was lovely to see everyone looking so smart although meatballs with tomato sauce & custard for lunch did cause me a wee bit on anxiety!
Netball club started too this week at lunchtime to accommodate the after school super 4s cross country. We had a really positive start with 8 children really keen to make a super Kirkcowan team. It is lovely to keep this going alongside our football team and gives the children the chance to play in the league.
Then we had a fantastic whole school, from Nursey to P7, trip across to Wigtown. Everyone embraced dressing up and all classes enjoyed a visit to Wigtown County Buildings to hear Mike Nicholson read and entertain. Alongside this P5-7 also took part in activities organised by Galloway Fisheries Trust, linked with invasive non-native species. In school all the children also took part in creating their favourite book cover to create their whole school World Book Day recipe Book. It was a lovely chance to all get together and have a partnership day too.
Next week we have our lunchtime focus on Eat Them to Defeat Them. Please have a look at the information in the following link. The children loved the advert & are ready to take on the challenge next week. If your child normally brings a packed lunch from home then we are asking you to support us in sending in some vegetables for them to try & they can then get a sticker like their school dinner munching friends. Our fabulous cooks will also be making new things for the children to try. https://eatthemtodefeatthem.com/families/
We also welcome you into school on Monday afternoon for the first of our parent engagement sessions with the focus on reading.
Then on Tuesday P1-4 are off to sing at the Galloway Music Festival & on Thursday it is the turn of P5-7. On Tuesday we send off Milly, Lois & Angus to represent the school at Wigtown Maths Challenge at Stranraer Academy, good luck team. P5-7 will also have a Biosphere input on Tuesday too.
As always please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you need anything at all email me on gw08andrewskirsty@ea.dumgal.sch.uk
