Dear Parent/Carer
What super Spring weather we are enjoying. It has been great to be able to make plans to do things outside. Our committees have spruced up the top playground & then all classes took part in The Litter League within the community. The children used litter pickers provided by D&G Council to make sure Kirkcowan is litter free.
In class we have also been talking about keeping ourselves safe when playing out and about at the park and in the village. With the nights stretching we are reminding the children to think about stranger danger and who they should talk to if something happens and they feel unsure or uncomfortable. They were able to share they would talk to you, their families, a friend’s parents or go to the shop.
P7s had their third visit to the DEHS. They went to English & Science departments in the morning. Then in the afternoon they worked with Developing Young Workforce on activities linked to potential future careers. Happy, smiling faces returned and highlighted the success and importance of the transition programme.
Then on Friday we had Mr Maxwell our Quality Improvement Officer visit school in the afternoon. He popped into all classes and spoke to staff. Mrs Caven also spoke to focus groups of children from P2-7 and looked at our PLPs and jotters. This is all part of our quality improvement process. Mr Maxwell spoke really positively about his visit to our school and how well the staff all work together. Mrs Caven praised the children in their knowledge of their learning and confidence in talking about their school experiences.
This all ran alongside our activities for Comic Relief. The HWB committee led assembly explaining the importance of Comic Relief and where the fundraised money goes and how it benefits families in the UK and Africa. It links really closely with our UNCRC work as the children are able to identify the rights that children
and young people under 18 are entitled to & how it is different across the world. The children looked fantas-tic in their party clothes and enjoyed decorating their biscuits, creating designs and partying in the hall. We raised a fantastic £61.70!
Next week as we head towards the holidays P6/7 have a team heading to Whithorn on Wednesday for the basketball tournament & P6 have a Film Education Day at the DEHS with all the cluster P6s on Friday. A lovely way for them to end this term.
