{"id":11728,"date":"2023-02-08T09:39:19","date_gmt":"2023-02-08T09:39:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/dg\/heathhallschool\/?p=11728"},"modified":"2023-02-08T09:39:19","modified_gmt":"2023-02-08T09:39:19","slug":"p5-class-trip-remembering-rabbie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/dg\/heathhallschool\/2023\/02\/08\/p5-class-trip-remembering-rabbie\/","title":{"rendered":"P5 Class Trip &#8211; Remembering Rabbie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Primary 5 recently went to the Robert Burns Centre to take part in a &#8216;Remembering Rabbie&#8217; workshop.\u00a0 This included learning about Burns&#8217; life in Dumfries, visiting Burns House and finishing the day with a walk to the Mausoleum to lay a wreath &#8211; as our visit coincided with Burn&#8217;s birthday &#8211; 25th January.<\/p>\n<p>During the day we were listening about his life, told to us by his friend John Syme as well as Jessie Lewars who was a family friend and nursed Robert Burns in his final months.<\/p>\n<p>We sang songs, learned some Scot&#8217;s language and also acted out the well known poem &#8211; Tam O&#8217; Shanter.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-11729 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/dg\/heathhallschool\/files\/2023\/02\/20230125_094937-300x139.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"139\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-11730 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/dg\/heathhallschool\/files\/2023\/02\/20230125_100850-139x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"139\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is some of us acting out Tam O&#8217; Shanter.\u00a0 Abigail Reilly played the part of Kate, Tam&#8217;s wife.\u00a0 Abigail Ross played the part of Tam.\u00a0 Callan played the part of Tam&#8217;s friend Soutar Johnnie.\u00a0 Olly played the part of the deil (devil).\u00a0 Connor played the part of Nannie (Cutty-sark).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-11731 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/dg\/heathhallschool\/files\/2023\/02\/20230125_113213-139x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"139\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-11732\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/dg\/heathhallschool\/files\/2023\/02\/20230125_113334-139x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"139\" height=\"300\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-11733\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/dg\/heathhallschool\/files\/2023\/02\/20230125_113507-139x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"139\" height=\"300\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-11734\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/dg\/heathhallschool\/files\/2023\/02\/20230125_113937-139x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"139\" height=\"300\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-11735\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/dg\/heathhallschool\/files\/2023\/02\/20230125_114055-139x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"139\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Soutar Johnnie and Tam O&#8217; Shanter were at the bar and Tam stayed too long &#8211; Joe M<\/p>\n<p>Tam O&#8217; Shanter shouted out &#8216;Weel done, Cutty-sark!&#8217; Nannie began to chase Tam on his horse, Meg. He knew if he crossed the bridge then the witch wouldn&#8217;t be able to chase after him.\u00a0 But, Nannie managed to catch Meg&#8217;s tail and pulled it off &#8211; Callan<\/p>\n<p>My favourite part of the story was Callan (aka Soutar Johnnie) drinking beer in the bar &#8211; Evan<\/p>\n<p>Here we are at Burn&#8217;s House.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-11736 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/dg\/heathhallschool\/files\/2023\/02\/20230125_130629-139x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"139\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We got to see Robert Burns&#8217; kitchen and how they made their washing smell better whilst washing it using water from the River Nith.\u00a0 They would use dried rose petals. &#8211; Abigail Ross<\/p>\n<p>There were seven knitted dolls around Burns&#8217; House to represent the seven children who lived there &#8211; Abbie<\/p>\n<p>In one of the rooms upstairs, which Burns called his &#8216;closet&#8217; where he wrote many of his songs and poems, Burns scratched his signature onto a pane of glass in the window. &#8211; Joe A<\/p>\n<p>The family would cut up old tea-towels and fabric and tie it together to make a rug &#8211; Thea<\/p>\n<p>Finally we visited the Mausoleum.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-11737\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/dg\/heathhallschool\/files\/2023\/02\/20230125_141130-139x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"139\" height=\"300\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-11738\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/dg\/heathhallschool\/files\/2023\/02\/20230125_141350-300x139.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"139\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Inside the Mausoleum we looked around to find the mouse from the poem &#8216;To a Mouse.&#8217; We managed to find it!\u00a0 Will<\/p>\n<p>While we were in St. Michael&#8217;s churchyard and at the Mausoleum there were photographers and videographers taking pictures and videos of them.\u00a0 This was because our visit was on Burns Day.\u00a0 Noel<\/p>\n<p>Just before we went to the Mausoleum, we were looking out for grave stones with a blue plaque on them.\u00a0 This showed us that these people had been friends of Burns.\u00a0 Jessica<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We enjoyed our day out of school.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Primary 5 recently went to the Robert Burns Centre to take part in a &#8216;Remembering Rabbie&#8217; workshop.\u00a0 This included learning about Burns&#8217; life in Dumfries, visiting Burns House and finishing the day with a walk to the Mausoleum to lay a wreath &#8211; as our visit coincided with Burn&#8217;s birthday &#8211; 25th January.
