{"id":762,"date":"2021-01-19T15:27:25","date_gmt":"2021-01-19T15:27:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/dg\/gelston\/?p=762"},"modified":"2021-01-20T13:13:36","modified_gmt":"2021-01-20T13:13:36","slug":"newsletter-w-c-18th-january-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/dg\/gelston\/2021\/01\/19\/newsletter-w-c-18th-january-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Newsletter &#8211; w\/c 18th January 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Family and Friends of Crossmichael and Gelston Primary Schools,<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I hope that you are well.\u00a0 It has been lovely to see the children via Microsoft TEAMS meetings this week.\u00a0 Our intention is for each class to have at least one weekly meeting and other live interactions will be provided as and when required.\u00a0 (E.g. recorded lessons, links to online video clips or live lessons.)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I have a few updates to share with you in this newsletter.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Weekly Pupil Health and Wellbeing Questionnaire<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At the beginning of each week, we will email all parents and P4-7 pupils a link to a short questionnaire.\u00a0 Please help your child(ren) to complete this questionnaire by Friday of each week.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We ask that you do this so that we can check on pupils&#8217; health and wellbeing and also so that we can support families and set realistic expectations of the quality and quantity of remote learning.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Microsoft TEAMS &#8211; Support<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Microsoft TEAMS can enable pupils to see up to nine others on screen at a time.\u00a0 This only works when accessing TEAMS from the app.\u00a0 The app can be downloaded onto any device.\u00a0 If your child is using the app then their GLOW username is followed by <strong>@glow.sch.uk<\/strong> (instead of @dumgal.sch.uk).\u00a0 They use their GLOW password as normal.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When your child is in the app, they can click on \u2018calendar\u2019 then find the meeting and click on \u2018JOIN\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When your child accesses TEAMS, it would be useful to show them how to mute\/unmute themselves by clicking on the image of a microphone.\u00a0 This helps to avoid feedback when another is speaking.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There is also a \u2018hands up\u2019 function where they can click on the hand if they wish to speak and click on it again once they have finished speaking.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There is a chat facility too.\u00a0 Please ensure that your child only uses this to type in responses to the discussion rather than to distract others.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If you require any support in using TEAMS then please contact Miss Emma McDonald via email at <a href=\"mailto:gw17mcdonaldemma@ea.dumgal.sch.uk\">gw17mcdonaldemma@ea.dumgal.sch.uk<\/a> .\u00a0 Miss McDonald is our Covid-19 Recovery Teacher and works between the Castle Douglas Cluster schools.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It is worth noting that we are all using different devices and some do not have access to microphones or cameras so it can be difficult to participate fully at times.\u00a0 It may be worth explaining to your child that there are times when there is a delay or an overlap meaning that their teacher or classmates may not respond immediately.\u00a0 Your child should not take this personally.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Expectations of Remote Learning<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Teachers provide weekly learning grids via email, Facebook and TEAMS.\u00a0 Pupils can access all materials online and some activities can be completed away from devices.\u00a0 Some parents have asked for paper copies of materials.\u00a0 Whilst we are happy to provide support, I am aware that whole classes of pupils are requesting this.\u00a0 This results in some teachers having to come into school to prepare the packs.\u00a0 We are desperately trying to reduce the number of staff and pupils accessing schools so please consider whether this is a necessity.\u00a0 We need to keep everyone as safe as possible.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Some parents have requested additional work for their children.\u00a0 There are many additional activities available online and several activities that you can complete without being on a device.\u00a0 Some parents have requested additional work for their children.\u00a0 There are many additional activities available online and several activities that you can complete without being on a device.\u00a0 Miss McDonald has prepared a list of generic activities that you can access to support your child.
