Dumfries & Galloway Parent Council Forum<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

There is a meeting on Thursday\u00a0 (21st November) at 7pm at Castle Douglas High School open to parents.\u00a0 The main focus will be on sharing and discussing next steps for Education Services within the Council as we face budget savings.\u00a0 We cannot continue to spend money in the same way so we need to ‘transform’ our approach.\u00a0 Several meetings were held across the region to discuss ideas and this meeting is a chance for you to find out more about what this will mean for our school and our children.\u00a0 It would be extremely helpful if some parents could attend and feed back to the Parent Council.<\/p>\n

Stewartry Dance Competition<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

I now have a groups of pupils from P1-7 who will be entering the Stewartry Dance Competition on 10th December.\u00a0 In preparation for the event we are learning our dance over three weeks from 3-4pm in Gelston Village Hall.\u00a0 Keep dancing!!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Edina Trust Bulb Project<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Our pupils are involved in the ‘Spring Bulbs for Schools’ project which is a long running climate change investigation.\u00a0 It gives pupils the opportunity to be part of a\u00a0real science investigation. Pupils have planted daffodil and crocus bulbs and will spend time from Oct-Mar recording the rainfall and temperature each school day.\u00a0 They will\u00a0watch their daffodils and crocuses grow and record when they flower, and the height of the plants when the flowers open.\u00a0 Results will be shared between schools all over the UK and pupils will begin to draw conclusions about the impact of climate change.<\/p>\n

Active Schools Jigs and Reels<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Louise Coupar from the Active Schools Team will be working with pupils in P4-7 one afternoon this week\u00a0 in preparation for a Scottish Dance event happening in Term 3.<\/p>\n

P2 and P3 Postcards of Kindness Project<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Postcards of Kindness Project<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Pupils in P2 and P3 are taking part in this Age UK project which helps elderly and vulnerable people, who sometimes feel isolated and forgotten, to engage with people across the UK.\u00a0 Each week pupils will be writing a few sentences to send on a card to a care home in the UK.\u00a0 This is in keeping with our school values and gives pupils a real sense of purpose for their writing.\u00a0 This will encourage pupils to write legibly and ensure that their writing is interesting.\u00a0 No personal details will be shared on postcards with the focus being on school and interests.\u00a0 Please talk to your child about this at home.\u00a0 We would be delighted to hear your feedback.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

All parents and families are invited to the village hall so that pupils can share their achievements in learning within and out with school.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

P4-7 may arrive wearing their party clothes\/non-uniform and change into uniforms before lunch.\u00a0 P1-3 may bring party clothes\/ non-uniform with them and change at lunch time.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Thursday 19th<\/sup> December at 7pm<\/strong><\/td>\nPantomime at the Fullarton Theatre<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pupils from Crossmichael and Gelston Primary Schools will attend the theatre to see Cinderella.<\/p>\n
