{"id":177,"date":"2019-10-28T13:55:30","date_gmt":"2019-10-28T13:55:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/dg\/gelston\/?p=177"},"modified":"2019-10-30T21:16:45","modified_gmt":"2019-10-30T21:16:45","slug":"newsletter-monday-28th-october-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/dg\/gelston\/2019\/10\/28\/newsletter-monday-28th-october-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"Newsletter &#8211; Monday 28th October 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Welcome Back<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Welcome back to Term 2 at Gelston Primary School.\u00a0 I hope you had a wonderful holiday and are looking forward to this term.\u00a0 Last term, we raised an amazing \u00a3811 on our Sponsored Autumn Walk so thank you very much to everyone who contributed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Halloween Party<\/span><\/p>\n<p>We are having our Halloween party on Thursday 31st October in the afternoon.\u00a0 Pupils can change into their costumes after lunch.\u00a0 They may wear non-uniform instead.\u00a0 It should be SPOOKTACULAR!!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">P4, P5, P6 and P7 Biosphere Explorers!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Galloway &amp; Southern Ayrshire Biosphere has a vision to make life in our Biosphere better while caring for the natural environment. A key strand of this is the education of the next generation biosphere residents in sustainable development, increasing awareness and connections with the \u2018working countryside\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The Biosphere Explorers project, run by the Crichton Carbon Centre and funded by the Hollywood Trust and the Galloway Glens Scheme, is working towards this aim with an education programme delivered in schools consisting of a series of workshops aimed at increasing knowledge of the local natural environment and human interactions with it. This project will run for two years and will be focussed on school age children, with elements for all residents of the area.<\/p>\n<p>Our P4, P5, P6 and P7 pupils will be participating in these workshops each each Thursday afternoon (from 7th November) led by the Biosphere Explorers Officer, Shalla Gray. The sessions will include:<\/p>\n<div>Session 1 &#8211; Introduction to\u00a0<span class=\"markh72amd3yi\">Biospheres<\/span>\u00a0and Our Biosphere.\u00a0 Activities &#8211; Memory quiz and making a booklet on &#8216;Little Ways to Save the Planet&#8217;<\/div>\n<div>Session 2 &#8211; What makes our Biosphere special?\u00a0 Activities &#8211; Making a poster on what makes our Biosphere special<\/div>\n<div>Session 3 &#8211; Biodiversity and the Biosphere.\u00a0 Activities &#8211; Food Web game and Nature survey (weather permitting)<\/div>\n<div>Session 4 &#8211;
