Educational Visitors – What do we do?

This specialist service assists the Education Authority to provide assessment and intervention for children in the early years with significant additional support needs to comply with the terms of Additional Support for Learning legislation. The EVs work across Dumfries and Galloway, there are four bases – Stewartry and Upper Nithsdale, East, West and Nithsdale.
Educational Visitors are teachers who have specialist experience and knowledge of additional support needs. The purpose of the service is to provide support to young children with significant Additional Support for Learning Needs and the team works closely with Allied Health Professionals, Parents/carers, Early Learning and Childcare settings and Social Work.
The EV Service is following the legal framework for the identification and support of the Additional Support Needs (ASN) of children and young people who experience barriers to learning. We do this through Stages 2/3/4 of the Stages of Intervention – Framework for Inclusion and Framework for Inclusion – Getting It Right for All Learners.
