It was formed by the amalgamation of the Douglas Free School opened in 1834 and the High School of the Ewart Institute opened in 1864.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Douglas Ewart High School is a non-denominational school serving the town of Newton<br>Stewart and an extensive rural area, the current school roll is 592.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>DEHS Vision, Values and Aims<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vision: our aspiration for our school community<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is the vision of DEHS that we will work together to meet the needs of every child so that they are safe, feel cared for and respected and can achieve their best.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Values: the qualities which we describe and are at the centre of our school CARE<\/strong> \u2013<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>C<\/strong>ommunity, <strong>A<\/strong>spiration, <strong>R<\/strong>esilience, <strong>E<\/strong>quity<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Aims: How we use our values to achieve our vision<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1. To build a nurturing school where mutual respect underpins all relationships;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. To promote personal responsibility for learning and to build aspiration for all pupils;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. To involve pupils, staff and parents as well as all other members of our wider school community in<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>building success for all;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4. This shows that we are committed to putting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child at the heart of our school ethos. We are now working towards the Silver award where children\u2019s rights are understood, respected and lived every day.
